“Change is the only constant in life.” -Heraclitus
It affects us from the moment of our conception to the very last breath we take on this earth. At the root of all growth, of all wisdom, we find change. Sometimes these changes can be a source of extraordinary joy. At other times change can provoke feelings of discomfort, fear, and even pain.
Though many changes are unavoidable, we should not believe that we’re subject to the whims of unpredictability. It’s easy to picture ourselves like leaves, blowing frantically in a storm. But we shouldn’t feel that everything is out of…
It’s a bit scary out there in the world right now. A lot of things feel beyond our control. But the one thing you can control is how you love and take care of yourself. And a simple way to do that is to get lots of yummy, immune-boosting foods into your diet. According to a 2017 study published in ScienceDirect, a diet full of nutrient-rich foods can play an important role in improving immune system function.
The list of plant-based foods that strengthen the immune system goes well into the double-digits. I’ve made you a short and sweet list…
When you think of things which cause harm to the environment, what comes to mind?
You probably think of driving a car when you could walk or bike, failing to properly dispose of recyclable materials, or using plastic items such as straws or grocery bags. Maybe international flight even comes to mind or an image of someone throwing an empty drink bottle out their car window.
Clothing was likely not on your list.
Don’t worry, you’re not alone in this. Clothing wasn’t ever really something I thought about either.
It wasn’t until I decided to alter my daily habits in…
News flash: Women aren’t men.
I know this seems like a strange way to start an article because “duh”, right? But for years the medical and healthcare industry seemed to treat women as if they were pretty much the same as men. They scoffed at the idea that fluctuating hormones, menstrual cycles, and plain ‘ole physical differences did anything more than make a woman bleed and get moody and weepy.
When I tell people I follow a plant-based diet, one of the most common responses I get is “Ugh, I could never eat tofu.”
I get it. Tofu has a bad rap.
It doesn’t look all that appealing. It’s a soft, color-less block of coagulated soy milk that often falls apart when cooked or is completely tasteless and mushy when not prepared correctly.
Read that last bit again….. ”when not prepared correctly”.
I’m not gonna mince words here. Chances are the reason why you don’t like tofu is because you aren’t cooking it right.
Imagine if the first time you…
I recently turned 40.
Now, don’t get me wrong, though I am surprised at how speedily I got to this age, I don’t think 40 is old. But I’ve noticed that lately I’ve been spending a little more time in front of the mirror and being more critical of what I see. I worry about the increasing number of fine lines around my eyes, the dimple on my chin that I swear is getting deeper and more pronounced, and the grey hairs that are growing in faster and faster.
And I find myself thinking, “How can I stop this? How…
“You can’t do it.”
“She doesn’t like you.”
“You’re not good enough.”
“They did that on purpose, just to hurt you.”
Have you ever had any of these thoughts?
Guess what. Me too. A lot.
I’ve always struggled with self-confidence and insecurity issues. There were times in my life where I had some pretty deep lows. Somewhere along the way, I started thinking all those negative thoughts that bumped around in my brain were hard truths. They weren’t there all the time, they came up sometimes when I was feeling stressed, upset, or vulnerable. But I believed them. And because…
“Plant-based”; it’s a buzzword we’re seeing more and more. Restaurant chains are offering meat-free alternatives to their most popular foods, and the vegetarian sections at supermarkets are steadily growing in size. Plant-based products are higher in demand, and plant-based proteins are one of the fastest growing food trends for 2020. Professional athletes are praising the merits of decreasing animal products in their diets. And, if that wasn’t buzzy enough, two out of three Hemsworth brothers have cut all animal products out of their diets. And one of those brothers is Thor. …
